Syncing 2Do with your Google Calendar via ToodleDo
I use the elegant 2Do App on my iPhone. The user interface is one of the most user-friendly, customisable and beautiful apps you will find for organizing your tasks and to do items.
Although 2Do works on the concept of calendars and has many good alert functions (email, push notifications etc.) to warn you of due dates, I wanted to be able to display my tasks within my Google Calendar. Natively the 2Do app doesn’t support this feature. You can sync with iCal for the Mac, MobileMe Calendar or Toodledo.
A quick Google search found that the developers of 2Do believe that Google tasks architecture is not robust enough to be able to sync with at this time. I’m not that technical, so I have to take their word for it. However, I knew there had to be a way to pull the tasks into my Google Calendar.
I first tried syncing my tasks with iCal, and then syncing iCal with Google Calendars. However this is not as simple as it would seem, so I had to abandon the idea. Although it does seem that with a bit of effort this would work.
Next, I synced my 2Do tasks with Toodledo (I’m not sure why they have this option as Toodledo would seem to be a direct competitor). Toodledo has an app with a button you can press (from the web-based version) to add Toodledo to your Google Calendar. Once you’ve done this, you then need to log into Toodledo from your Google Calendar.
Finally, from my iPhone I set 2Do to sync every time I exit the app so any changes are synced with Toodledo. I use Calengoo to access my Google Calendar on my iPhone, and this syncs when the app opens so my 2Do tasks (via Toodledo) are visible within my Google Calendar.
To view the tasks within Calengoo, goto List View, and click on the relevant “Tasks for…” link for any given day. There are some limitations. You must click the “Web” button in the bottom left corner. Past days will only show tasks completed on that day. Today or future days will show tasks due on those days. Once you’ve clicked the “Web” button, you can edit tasks within Toodledo. You can’t edit tasks from within Calengoo itself, however, you can edit them in Toodledo, then navigate back to your calendar.
This is the quickest and easiest way to monitor due dates for 2Do items within your Google Calendar.
